Notably, the number of health & wellness-related patent applications in the consumer industry was 3,328 in Q1 2024, versus 3,745 in the prior quarter.
The top five companies accounted for 6% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Nestle filed the most health & wellness patents within the consumer industry in Q1 2024. The company filed 68 health & wellness-related patents in the quarter, compared with 86 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Kangnam University with 47 health & wellness patent filings, DSM-Firmenich (39 filings), and Kotobuki Realty (27 filings) in Q1 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 50% share of total patent filings
The largest share of health & wellness related patent filings in the consumer industry in Q1 2024 was in China with 50%, followed by the US (10%) and Japan (9%). The share represented by China was 7% higher than the 43% share it accounted for in Q4 2023.
