Notably, the number of big data-related patent applications in the consumer industry was 117 in Q1 2024, versus 198 in the prior quarter.
The top five companies accounted for 69% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Intel filed the most big data patents within the consumer industry in Q1 2024. The company filed 38 big data-related patents in the quarter, compared with 47 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications with 22 big data patent filings, Vivo Mobile Communication (13 filings), and Gree Electric Appliances Inc of Zhuhai (4 filings) in Q1 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 72% share of total patent filings
The largest share of big data related patent filings in the consumer industry in Q1 2024 was in the US with 72%, followed by China (9%) and Canada (2%). The share represented by the US was 42% higher than the 30% share it accounted for in Q4 2023.
