The top five companies accounted for 60% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Intel filed the most cybersecurity patents within the consumer industry in Q1 2024. The company filed 98 cybersecurity-related patents in the quarter, compared with 106 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications with 80 cybersecurity patent filings, Vivo Mobile Communication (71 filings), and LG (67 filings) in Q1 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 40% share of total patent filings
The largest share of cybersecurity related patent filings in the consumer industry in Q1 2024 was in the US with 40%, followed by China (17%) and Japan (5%). The share represented by the US was 5% higher than the 35% share it accounted for in Q4 2023.
